Final Thoughts | The Commanders will get some much-needed rest before the playoff push

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn addressed the media the day after the team’s 42-19 victory over the Tennessee Titans to offer some final thoughts before heading into the bye week. Here are some of the highlights from his press conference.

Quinn began by saying that the needle is “almost empty” for his young team after three straight months of work, including training camp. He challenged them to empty the tank before the Titans game and they responded with a complete performance to earn their eighth win of the season.

Now it’s time for some rest before we prepare for the final playoff push.

“Now that we’ve gotten to this point, I’m excited to talk to them about it … as we prepare to use this week to re-energize and reset,” Quinn said.

Quinn said earlier in the season that a late bye week might not feel like an advantage in certain moments, but it could be once it’s there. That statement ultimately proved true as the Commanders now allow themselves some rest before the final four games on their schedule, all of which will be important if they ultimately make the playoffs. With three of these teams having either a losing or winning record, they are in good shape to clinch a spot in the postseason, but they cannot afford any more mistakes like they made during their three-game losing streak.

The best way to do this is to not look too far into the schedule and instead focus on the week ahead.

“Literally this moment, this time, this week of training,” Quinn said. “So the brotherhood aspect is a big part of what we do, our style of play, our identity. But back to saying goodbye… I can tell you that we really have to have the necessary discipline at base camp to go to the next place.
