First nine vs. last nine games

The upcoming games represent Gameweek 19, the half-time of the 2024/25 Premier League, in which every team has played each other (with the exception of the Merseyside derby, which was postponed due to inclement weather).

But before we get there, we’ve split the 18 gameweeks so far into two sets of nine games each to see which teams have started the season well and which have had a good run of late.

When you look at the following tables, you notice the following.

The biggest change is of course with the defending Premier League champions. Manchester City. They were at the top of the table after nine games, having won seven and drawn the other two games, giving them 23 points. But waiting around the corner was the club’s worst form in 18 years and Pep Guardiola’s worst period as a manager.

City have picked up just five points from their next nine games and their form is so poor that the champions are in the bottom three places in the last nine gameweeks, with only two promoted teams. Southampton And Leicester Citydue to goal difference between them.

Other teams that have struggled over the last nine game weeks are Aston Villawho took 18 points from their first nine games and finished in fourth place, but only got 10 points from their last nine games, making it their 15th worst performance. Brighton & Hove Albion have also fallen behind, going six games without a win and taking 10 points from MW10-18, six fewer than in the first nine rounds.

On the other hand, Wolverhampton Wanderers are the team that has made the biggest improvement.

Wolves had only picked up two points from their first nine games, but their 13 points in the last nine meetings, including back-to-back wins under new head coach Vitor Pereira, gave them their eighth-best record in that period.

Now both AFC Bournemouth And Newcastle United improved their performance by five points between game weeks 10 and 18.
