The New Jersey Devils and Calgary Flames complete their two-game season series in The Rock this evening.

My flame analysis
If you are interested in fire hockey, this will probably not be the game for you. The Devils of Calgary Flames and New Jersey are two of the most under-friendly teams in the NHL, and the proof is in pudding.

Calgary has a 25-41-1 O/U record a year, while New Jersey comes in with an almost identical 25-42-2 O/U record.

The flames do not have the horses to exchange opportunities with teams so that they play a more conservative, lower scoring style and rely on their goalkeepers to exceed the opposition.

This formula worked pretty well, and the flames are in a year in a year in a striking distance to a playoff place.

Conversely, the devils have had difficulties since turning the calendar to create an insult with 5-to-5 efforts. They take the 26th place in efficiency and scored only 2.07 goals per 60 minutes.

Finding the back of the network is now even more difficult because superstar Jack Hughes is out for the season.

These teams met in November and not much happened without any goals without being scored in the first 50 minutes and one of three goals with an empty network of New Jersey in New Jerseys.

In view of the fact that New Jersey has not clarified 30 shots in any of the last 10 games and that it lacks its best weapon in Hughes, there is no reason to expect an offensive outbreak this time.

In the meantime, the flames should have a difficult time to get through the defensive structure of the devils – not to mention their former Star goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom on the occasions they do.

The devils don’t give many shots – except for defenders. In the last 10 games, they have given up the fourth most common volume compared to opposing blues and in the seventh season in the season.

Mackenzie Weegar is the flame defender who is most likely to take advantage of. In six attempts per game in the last 20, he achieved an average of 2.5 shots in six attempts per game.

He also took advantage of the devils in her previous matchup and recorded four shots in seven attempts when the two sides met in November.

Nico Heschier has had at least six shot attempts in all three home games since Hughes lost.

For the context, Hischier clarified 2.5 shots in 85% of his games this season when he tried six or more.

If this is the type of volume that he can create against a flames team that plays his third street game on four nights, he has an excellent chance of getting through.
