Follow up From what we posted yesterday, learn more about the story of Father Carlos Martins here.

Through lawyers who wrote to the news agency as part of a cease-and-desist letter, The pillarFather Martins has given his account of the “incident,” which appears to have caused a gross overreaction. According to Father Martin’s lawyers, some parishioners were present during a “chat” with the faithful who had come to venerate the relic of Saint Jude with which he was touring, and

During his conversation with the older students, he made a comment to one student about herlong hair and remarked, “You and I have almost the same hairstyle,” a comment that elicited giggles. He then noted that he once had long hair like her and joked that he would “floss my teethteeth with It.” His comment again was met with laughter. Then he asked the student, “Got itHave you ever flossed your teeth? Hair?” Laughing, she shook her head, no. Then he said, “Well, you “I’m the perfect length for this,” as he took a lock from her shoulders to show her the length.

She giggled along with the others. He built a relationship. The student came home and told her father the story. He apparently became angry at what he heard and called the police. The police arrived the community during the event and, after questioned the students, but remained without Make arrests or press charges. Only after the outraged father called the police, a for the second time and insisted that they would charge Rs. Martins with battery that the police agreed to continue investigate. There is no indication that there is new evidence that would have further implications my client about any wrongdoing. No charges have been filed so far.

Father Martins is bald. Hence the giggling. Say what you will about the prudence or advisability of his dealings with the student, it is a far cry from what most people would expect after reading it That of the pillar Cover. Most people will assume something much darker.

There is updated coverage of this story on several websites including The pillarwhich did not retract its original article, but did post another post that was, in part, an apology as to why they published their original, very incomplete story. Here are some of the more recent articles:

One last thing. I think Bree Dail makes some good points about the journalistic ethics (or lack thereof) at play here. If you see this post on X, you can find more of her comments in the thread below. I certainly don’t always agree with Bree Dail, but she seems to apply a high standard of scrutiny before reporting a story and she finds fault with something The pillar for not doing the same.
