Forget Spotify, Taylor Swift will hit an unprecedented streaming milestone in 2025

For music fans, December will always be partly defined by stats, thanks to Spotify Wrapped’s annual roundup that just landed on millions of homepages. The annual opportunity to learn how often you’ve obsessively streamed your favorite songs, how much your kids have ruined your profile, and who exactly you are as a person, defined by your tastes, is catnip for musical Stattos. It was an inspired move from Spotify since its launch 10 years ago.

This year’s Spotify Wrapped marked a dramatic change from the 2023 edition in one key way. While the overall list of most-streamed artists again included more male artists, all five of the most-streamed albums were released by women. Next to Taylor Swift‘S The Tortured Poets DepartmentBillie Eilish’s third album Hit me hard took second place, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short and sweet The Colombian artist Karol G’s came third Mañana Será Bonito in the fourth and Ariana Grandes Eternal sunshine rounds out the top 5.

In 2024, up-and-coming artists like Carpenter and Chappell Roan provided more competition, but ultimately, as the Era’s Tour comes to an end, it was the year of Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift has won Spotify (again)

Breaking down Taylor Swift’s phenomenal 2024

Taylor Swift Top Streaming Artist Spotify Packed

Not only is Taylor Swift the most-streamed artist of 2024 on Spotify, she also won the most-streamed album The Tortured Poets Department. Impressively, two more Taylor Swift albums reached the top 10, with 1989 (Taylor’s version) at number 6 and lover with 8. She is also the first artist to win the top streaming artist award consecutively (and was the first ever to win the overall award) and is now tied with Ed Sheeran with two wins, behind Drake and Bad Bunny with three wins.

Swift was streamed a whopping 26.6 billion times, 500,000 times more than in 2023. That’s an average of more than 72 million streams for every day of the year. Worth noting, according to Spotify’s monthly charts: She achieved the feat of being the most-streamed artist without spending a single month in 2024. This trend was already seen between 2019 and 2022, as none of the most streamed artists of the year were at the top of the monthly listener list.

In 2025, Swift will reach an incredible Spotify streaming milestone

Taylor Swift could become the first solo artist to break a stunning record

So what’s next for Taylor Swift? The Era’s Tour ends on December 8, 2024, capping a mammoth chapter of her career in which she reached almost unprecedented personal highs. She still has two Taylor’s Version albums to release, and at some point attention will turn to a new album to follow The Tortured Poets Department and (presumably) a smaller tour. Both will most likely happen after the end of 2025. But There could still be reason to celebrate next year.

Swift’s current total streams on Spotify are 94,668,676,692 (via Chartmasters) as a solo artist and just over 95.5 billion including tracks in which she appears alongside another lead actress. That means sometime in the first half of 2025 Taylor Swift will reach 100 billion streams on Spotifymaking her possibly the first solo artist ever to achieve the milestone.

Their closest competitor, Drake, has technically already reached 100 billion streams, but nearly 25 billion of his streams come as a featured artist on other people’s songs. As a solo artist, he lags behind at 81,407,301,096 streams. Unless Drake reverses the trend and people just stop listening Taylor Swift In 2025, she will certainly be the first artist to ever reach the 100 billion streams mark.
