Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney said it was a “great honor” to appear on a new commemorative coin from the Royal Mint.

Her new coin collection is the first of its kind created in honor Sir Pauls groundbreaking career.

But this isn’t a penny (track), it’s a £5 coin depicting the Beatles singer’s iconic magic piano as well as references to his career, including piano sheet music personally selected by him, a Höfner violin bass guitar and the Wings logo .

Sir Paul said: “This is nothing I would have ever expected as a child.”

McCartney said it was a “great honor” to have a coin made for him

And although money can’t buy love, you can still buy one of these coins, the cheapest costing £15.50, while some cost more than £100 for the rarer or more colorful coins.

early next year, The Royal Mint offers fans the chance to own a signed gold edition of the coin – if they want money.

The bespoke gold coin weighs 5kg (11lb) and took over 250 hours to create, including three days of hand polishing.

It was signed by McCartney during his 2024 Got Back tour in Paris and will be auctioned alongside four silver 5kg editions.

The coin is inspired by McCartney’s use of pennies as guitar picks

Inspired by the use of pennies as guitar picks in the early days of his career, the Royal Mint has also created a special edition pick-shaped coin as a gift to Sir Paul.

The unique pick is made from sustainable gold sourced from e-waste at the South Wales factory.

Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coins at the Royal Mint, said: “Our coins celebrate the greatest icons and events in British history, so it is fitting that Paul McCartney’s remarkable music career is now celebrated on an official British coin.”

“What’s special about this coin is that Paul was involved throughout the entire design process.”
