Former mayoral candidate disappeared: now he is accused of murder

39-year-old Adam Arthur Rosenthal, a former Gainsville mayoral candidate, was missing for seven months only to resurface later because he was suspected of murder and was part of an alleged racist cult.

A search warrant was issued for Rosenthal after the body of another member of the Twelve Tribes was found dead. Darren Gambrel, a man in his early 30s, was found murdered on a farm in Pulaski, Tennessee, Purvis. The investigator in charge immediately issued an arrest warrant against Rosenthal.

A motive for the murder is not yet known, but Purvis is on the hunt. The cult mayoral candidate is currently wanted for criminal homicide, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence. He’s pretty sure the murder was caused by Rosenthal.

Rosenthal joined the cult just a few months earlier. However, authorities believe this may not be the first murder he has been involved in. According to police, they are investigating the possibility that he was also involved in serious crimes in other states. What exactly these are is not yet known.

Murder mayor involved in supremacist cult

The Twelve Tribes US cult, in which Rosenthal and the victim of his murder were involved, has some pretty dark views. “They feel like they’ve lost a family member,” Purvis said.

However, the Southern Poverty Law Center has a lot to say about Twelve Tribes. “At first glance, the communities and hippie restaurants and cafés can seem quaint and idyllic,” they say. A clean and clear appearance ensures they are legal and welcome.

However, when you look into the teaching, you realize that not everything is what it seems at first glance. “Below the surface lies a tangle of doctrines that teach their adherents that slavery was a wonderful opportunity for black people, seen in the Bible as servants of whites, and that homosexuals deserve nothing less than death.” it claims in the SPLC article.

Whether the murder of the Twelve Tribes member by the former mayoral candidate has anything to do with these beliefs remains to be seen. He is currently due in court on December 12th. It is still unclear whether he will appeal the charges or hire a lawyer.
