According to the On3 Industry rankings, Arik Gilbert was ranked as the top tight end and No. 5 overall player in the country in the 2020 class.

Gilbert was arrested twice in 2023, including on a robbery charge. He left the Cornhuskers team not long after his arrest.

The Georgia native originally signed with LSU out of high school. As a freshman in 2020, he caught 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns.

Arik Gilbert then transferred to Georgia before the 2021 season. He did not play for the Bulldogs in 2021 before appearing in three games and recording two catches in 2022. He then transferred to Nebraska but did not play in a game for the Cornhuskers.

“I just think he’s a talented player. He’s a player,” Rhule said. “What we want to do, like all of our players, is for him to say 10 years from now that his life is better because he played with us at Nebraska. “That’s all I care about with all these guys.

“What this means for him, I’m just getting to know him. I want him to have elite success in the classroom, I want him to be involved in the community, I want him to have great relationships and I want him to play well at football.”
