Former New York Mets Pitcher from Lowly Al Club claimed

The New York Mets almost had the opportunity to resume one of the prospects that they lost in the draft of Rule 5 of 2024. Instead, it has been on the move for the third time since December.

On Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox announced that they had claimed the right-hand pitcher Mike Vasil from the Tampa Bay Rays from the exemptions. Vasil was previously traded hours after the 14th selection of the 14th selection in the Major League phase of the design from Rule 5 to Tampa Bay after the Philadelphia Phillies had selected him.

If Vasil had released the exemptions, it would have been traced back to the METs for $ 50,000, 5 provisions per rule. The same rules apply to the rest of the season, even if it is acquired by another team about trade or exception: Vasil can only match the minors if he is no longer conquered by waiving declarations and his original club, the METS.

The 25-year-old Vasil was an eighth round of the Mets in 2021. He impressed at the lower levels of minors and, according to the MLB, rose as high as No. 11 in New York in 2023.

The 6-foot 5 right-handed man scored a 3.71 ERA, 0.84 whip and 10.1 k/9 over 51 double-a-inside in 2023, before he received an action for Triple-A Syracuse, where he went over 16 starts 4-4 with an ERA of 5.30 ERA and 1.48 whip. His battles lasted in 2024 at this level when he ended 8-10 with an ERA of 6.04, 1.55 whip and 7.3 k/9 in 29 appearances (27 starts).

He spent spring in Tampa and put an ERA of 5.91 in 10.2 innings of work, which was not a place at the ray opening day. In his last excursion of Grapefruit League, he threw three shutout -in -innings against the Mets.

Vasil now follows an organization after a historical loss season with 41-121. Of the current names that are likely to lead the White Sox rotation in 2025, only one – Martín Pérez – made more than 21 starts in a big league season.

Apart from changes in the next few days, Vasil will be on Chicago’s 26-man service plan for the opening day and is expected to give his MLB debut soon. Shane Smith from the Rule 5 basically 5 is also transferred on the list of the club to open the season, so that both contribute to long relief and possibly earn places at the rear end of the rotation.
