Four things Alabama must do in the 2nd half to beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl – touchdown Alabama

William McLelland-USA Today Sports

A rivalry weekend is underway in college football as Alabama leads Auburn 14-6 at halftime in the Iron Bowl from Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Here’s what the Crimson Tide must do to complete the win in the 2nd half:

1. Ball security:

Alabama’s offense needs to play cleanly and protect the football after three offensive tackles faltered following two fumbles and an interception in the first half against Auburn.

2. Continue to establish a rhythm in the running game on early downs:

Alabama’s rushing attack wins the line of scrimmage against Auburn in the first half after rushing for 83 yards on 22 attempts. This is led by quarterback Jalen Milroe’s two rushing touchdowns in the first half. The Alabama offense needs to continue this steady approach in the second half by continuing to involve both tailbacks, Jam Miller and Justice Haynes.

3. Find a way to keep Auburn RB Jarquez Hunter at bay:

The Alabama defense will have to find a way to contain Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter after he rushed for 55 yards on 10 attempts in the first half. The Tide will need to make a point of tackling better in the second half.

4. Continue to keep Auburn behind the chains on early downs:

Alabama limited the Auburn offense to just two third-down conversions on nine attempts in the first half. The Crimson Tide defense must continue to keep Auburn behind the chains and force Tigers QB Payton Thorne into obvious third-down and long pass situations.
