Frances Tiafoe names the two strokes he has really improved since hiring his new coach after Wimbledon this year

Frances Tiafoe is looking to get his 2025 season off to a strong start when he takes on Brisbane International in Australia.

Tiafoe is considered a Grand Slam success; the American is currently in 18th place in the ATP Tour rankings.

Three-time ATP title winner Tiafoe will play Carlos Alcaraz in Puerto Rico in March after the pair just played a friendly in Charlotte.

However, the former must first turn his attention to the Brisbane International, where Tiafoe faces Adam Walton in round one.

Should he beat the Australian on home soil, he will face a second-round duel with his close friend Nick Kyrgios.

Frances Tiafoe says what he has improved since signing David Witt to Wimbledon

Before his opening game, Tiafoe was asked by reporters what his coach David Witt contributed to his game.

“First of all, he inspired a lot of confidence,” Tiafoe said. “The biggest thing he achieved was focusing on competition and understanding that I am one of the best players in the world. I lost sight of that for a while.

“As far as my game goes, my return of service has improved a lot since I started working with him. Then first strike.

“Use my speed to be aggressive, not defensive. Try to dictate play from the middle of the court, play closer to the baseline and play faster.

“I think I’ve played a lot quicker since he came on. Then I go really hard, using my hands and stuff like that and trying to get in as far as I can.

“You don’t have to be a rocket scientist, but he got it right. Yes, we just have a great relationship. He’s a funny guy. Relaxed. I think I needed that.”

What is Frances Tiafoe’s career Grand Slam record?

Tiafoe reached out to Witt after Wimbledon earlier this summer, as the coach had previously worked with players such as Venus Williams and Jessica Pegula.

It was a disappointing Grand Slam season for the 26-year-old until he reached the semi-finals at the US Open.

Tiafoe lost to compatriot Taylor Fritz in New York after failing in the second rounds of the Australian Open and French Open and the third round of Wimbledon.

The American’s best Grand Slam result, who once reached number 10 on the ATP Tour, is reaching the US Open semi-finals, which he achieved twice.
