The second round 77 puts Tai under the cut line at the Masters

After Tai led the group of five amateurs in the masters with a 73er in the opening round, he was unable to convert any of his birdy opportunities on Friday. He took three of the four Par-5 chances and carded a double bogey in 15th place when he landed his approach on the front of the green and the ball was withdrawn into the pond into the pond.

Two of his bogeys came to faulty T-shots, one on the Par-3 4TH Where he went and went for a long time and again on Par-4 7THWhen he hit his ball directly under the pines and guests. His bogey on Par-4 11TH Came after he had hit the green in two parts, but the Yellow Jacket Junior hit his birdie putt far over the hole and could not let the putt come behind.

Tai had an excellent start in the Silver Cup as a low amateur and carded the best opening round of the five amateurs on the field. But he missed the cut and joined former yellow jackets Matt Kuchar (1998) and Andy Ogletre (2020) when winning the trophy. This award went to Justin Hastings from the Cayman Islands, who also missed the cut, but completed 36 holes at 4-over-Par.

Statistically speaking, Tai was better on Friday than Thursday and scored 11 out of 14 fairways and 14 out of 18 greens, an average of 1.94 putts per hole compared to 1.72 in the opening round.

The top 50 golfers and ties make the cut for the last two rounds.

“It means a lot. Obviously we have played four boys in the past six years, including myself. We have had many amateurs played at this event, and it is really cool to be one of these types, and obviously Bobby Jones is a co -founder here, so it means a lot, and it is something that we always look forward to.”

A cry of Hiroshi’s coach at Tech

From the Thursday entry in his daily blog, Ken Sugiura from the Atlanta Journal Constitution shared a touching selection from an interview with Tech Coach Bruce Heppler About Tai …

“Hopefully you read my column about Hiroshi Tai from Georgia Tech, who played in his first master after an automatic invitation by winning the NCAA individual championship last year.

In the end I collected more quotes and notes in my reporting than I needed, but I wanted to share something from Tech coach Bruce Heppler that I thought, it was worth being shared.

If you don’t know, Heppler is probably the best coach in a sport in school history. Obviously, the two are at the top of the debate, the football legends John Heisman and Bobby Dodd. But in Heppler’s first 29 years at Tech, the Yellow Jackets won 14 Accitles, the NCAA championship final 21 times to the NCAA Championship final and were four times and four times in the best eight times. If Tech could simply knock down the door and win the national title, it would not believe that there would be a debate.

In addition, every senior has completed their watch and many played professionally. Tai is the fifth Tech player who invited a Masters as an amateur (after Matt Kuchar in 1998, Andy Ogletre in 2020, Tyler Kunstaci in 2021 and Christo Lamprecht in 2024).

In addition, by covering Tech, I always found him generously with his time, honest, revealing, modest and funny. (We have a lot in common.) (Ha ha)

Anyway, my point: “
