In the next few months, JCPenney has announced plans to close several business and to underline the continued downturn in the US individual trade sector.

The chain in the department store confirmed Axios that it would close another eight locations in 2025 – from more than 650 existing locations – and that of one year that is characterized by similar consolidations.

Newsweek Contacted JCPenney for a comment by e -mail outside of regular hours.

Why is it important

The physical retail transactions continued to perceive the effects of pandemic, the shift in consumer habits and the growing dominance of e-commerce. Many traditional inpatient companies described by some as “retail apocalypse” have closed after the failure to adapt these developing market dynamics.

According to Coresight Research, an estimated 15,000 business is expected to be completed in 2025, compared to 7,325 in the previous year. In the meantime, the number of new business openings will drop from 5,970 to 5,800.

Well -known retailers have announced due to the falling prospects of the retail sector, including Kohl’s, Bargain Hunt and Big Lots, in retail consolidations, closures and even bankruptcy. Other big names – such as Walgreens, Macy’s and Starbucks – are also preparing to reduce the presence of physical business all year round.

Jcpenney Axios said that the business lovers had nothing to do with his latest merger with Sparc, a retail business operator. The two companies announced the combination in January and brought their portfolios to the common Catalyst Brands label.
