Game and Fish’s Rick King is retiring after a decades-long career

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – After a long and storied career spanning more than two decades, Chief Game Warden Rick King has retired from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

King started Game and Fish in 1998 as an enforcement agency.

King served as a game warden at many duty stations throughout the state. He was the Lovell game warden when he was promoted to Laramie regional wildlife warden in 2011. In 2019, King was promoted to head of the Wildlife Division.

Also in 2019, King received the Director’s Award, the highest honor given at Game and Fish. King received it for a variety of efforts, including work on chronic wasting diseases, the ongoing process of developing a forage management plan for elk, and his interactions with the Wyoming Legislature.

During his tenure, King received the 2014 Wildlife Division Employee of the Year award and the 2016 Laramie Region Peer Recognition Award.

“Chief King has championed the management of Wyoming’s wildlife across our state for 26 years. Our wildlife and sportsmen are extremely grateful to Rick,” said Eric Wiltanger, assistant director of Game and Fish. “I wish him well in his retirement and thank him for his service to this great state.”
