Gasoline prices in Idaho are finally reaching the national average

The following is a press release from AAA Idaho.

BOISE – Gas prices in Idaho have finally reached the national average. According to AAA, both the state and U.S. averages are currently $3.05 for a gallon of regular oil.

The price in Idaho is five cents cheaper than a week ago, 26 cents less than a month ago and 51 cents less than a year ago. The national average is about a penny less than a week ago, six cents less than a month ago and 20 cents less than a year ago.

The Gem State has plummeted to 18th most expensive fuel in the country after several weeks in the top ten. Thirty-one states are already below the $3 mark for a gallon of regular oil, and Idaho could follow suit in the coming days.

“We achieved significant savings compared to last year, and that trend is likely to continue as we enter a bit of a lull following a record number of Thanksgiving travelers,” said Matthew Conde, public affairs director for AAA Idaho. “Cheaper fuel will continue to be the motivation for family gatherings and winter recreation leading up to the end-of-year holidays.”

The West Texas Intermediate crude oil benchmark is currently trading at about $68 a barrel, down about $1 less than a week ago, $2 less than a month ago and $6 a barrel less than a year.

Drivers can save even more by earning fuel rewards points through their credit card, grocery store, cell phone provider or other retailers.
