Georgia and Notre Dame worked together to narrow Penn State’s big advantage

Georgia football’s game against Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff has officially been postponed until Thursday, January 2nd. However, the timing of when the game will take place is uncertain and a matter of great debate.

The game was originally scheduled for January 2nd at 8:45 p.m. EST, the same time as was originally scheduled before the game was postponed. However, this was a time that both Georgia and Notre Dame were not fans of. And after much lobbying from both programs, the game was officially postponed until January 2nd at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Changes were made to prevent a greater advantage for Penn State

Why did Georgia and Notre Dame want this game to be played earlier in the day? It has everything to do with the fact that they don’t want Penn State to have an even bigger advantage than they already have.

Penn State already won its quarterfinal game against Boise State on December 31st, so they already had an extra day of rest compared to their next opponent. With the Georgia game now postponed a day, Penn State now has two additional days of rest, which is an even bigger advantage.

So the last thing either program wanted was for that advantage to continue to grow for Penn State. Delaying the game for a few more hours will prevent this advantage from growing any further. With the game now taking place several hours earlier, both Notre Dame and Georgia will be able to fly home the same day instead of having to fly in the middle of the night or stay in New Orleans another day. This helps reduce the large advantage Penn State already has.

Who knows if this advantage actually works in Penn State’s favor or not, but Georgia and Notre Dame managed to move the game up, which is a big deal for whoever wins their quarterfinal game.
