Get in the Christmas spirit for 2024 with these events

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – December is here! This time of year is full of holidays for everyone. So, let the holiday events begin. It’s time for The Rundown!

On Friday, the state’s official Christmas tree will light up the front steps of the Alabama Capitol. The lighting ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m

The annual Opelika Christmas parade will also kick off Snopelika Celebrations on Friday from 5:30 p.m. There will be Christmas music, snowball fights, food trucks and Santa Claus will come by! There will also be a Christmas tree lighting at 8:30 p.m

The city of Prattville kicks off the holiday season with its annual Christmas festival Christmas parade. Marching bands, lights, dancers, candy and more will be there as the parade moves through downtown. You can also enjoy the ice skating rink and the Christmas carousel. A great evening full of holiday fun!

A holiday classic, “The Nutcracker” presented by Alabama River Region Ballet takes place this weekend at the Davis Theater. There are three shows to choose from, so be sure to check out this magical performance.

Come see the Montgomery Zoo transform into a winter wonderland with thousands of lights and holiday decorations at the annual event Christmas lights festival. You can also visit Santa Claus and the Christmas Tree Village. It’s a holiday tradition that you can enjoy until December 31st.

Stop by and enjoy another holiday classic. A Christmas storyplays on the festival stage at ASF. You have until December 29th.

There are many other events taking place this weekend to get you in the holiday spirit, such as the Auburn Christmas Parade, Christmas on Madison, Wetumpka Christmas Tree Lighting, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Toy Christmas Drive, Carols of Peace – a Christmas concert and the 30th . Annual Christmas market and sale in the Standard Deluxe.
