Gold coin valued at over ,300 was donated to the Salvation Army in Phoenix

PHOENIX – A half-ounce gold American Eagle coin valued at more than $1,300 was donated to the Salvation Army’s Ray & Joan Kroc Center in Phoenix.

The coin was accompanied by a note that read: “May this gold help those in need during the Christmas season.” I bless you all.”

The face value of the coin is $25, but according to the Kroc Center appraisal, it sold for $1,310.

“We experience extraordinary acts of kindness and giving throughout the year, and this incredible donation is certainly no exception,” said Capt. Dustin Rowe, Kroc Center corps officer. “We would like to thank this generous donor from the bottom of our hearts.”

Despite a very generous donation from a Good Samaritan, Kroc Center’s Red Kettle donations are down 18% compared to this time last year.

Through Tax Day 2025, donations to The Salvation Army can directly reduce an Arizona tax bill, dollar for dollar, through a state tax credit. The maximum QCO credit donation is $470 for taxpayers filing as “single,” “head of household,” or “married filing separately,” and $938 for taxpayers filing as “married.” “who file a tax return together”.

There are always ways to support The Salvation Army throughout the year. Further information can be found here.
