“Gomorrah” star Salvatore Esposito joins “Maserati: The Brothers.”

EXCLUSIVE: Gomorrah Star Salvatore Esposito is the latest name in the English-language sports car biopic. Maserati: The brotherswhich is currently being filmed in Italy.

Michele Morrone, Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, Jessica Alba and Tunisian actress Maya Talem – another newcomer – also star in the film about the brothers behind the iconic Italian car.

The picture is produced by Italian Andrea Iervolino for his new film and television team called The Andrea Iervolino Company and directed by Oscar winner Bobby Moresco (crash). Filming will take place from today at the Cinecittà studios in Rome, Modena and Bologna.

Maserati was founded in 1914 in a garage in the central Italian city of Bologna by three brothers: Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto. From the beginning, the company now known for luxury cars has been linked to the world of auto racing. Maserati’s first Grand Prix car is the one that Alfieri Maserati was driving in the 1927 Messina Cup race when he had a near-fatal accident. Alfieri died a few years later at the age of 44 as a result of the car accident. In 1937 the brothers sold a majority stake in the company, which is now owned by Fiat.

Iervolino’s previous company, ILBE Group, where he worked with Monika Bacardi, produced the Bobby Moresco-directed biopic Lamborghini: The man behind the legend and was also one of Michael Manns’ producers Ferrari with Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz.

Esposito is best known for his role as crime boss Genny Savastano in the hit Italian series Gomorrah. Other credits include TV series Fargo, Taxi 5 and Gomorrah spinoff film The Immortal. He’s coming soon Den of Thieves 2.
