Governors call for quick action on updated farm law | Idaho

BOISE — Gov. Brad Little has joined 16 Republican governors in calling on Congress to expedite the reauthorization of the Farm Bill. In a letter to federal lawmakers, governors expressed concerns about the delayed passage and its potential impact on the agricultural sector.

Governor Little expressed his appreciation for Idaho’s congressional delegation, including Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch and Representatives Mike Simpson and Russ Fulcher, for their efforts to advance the legislation.

The governors emphasized that domestic agricultural production is critical to national security. The letter said: “If a country cannot feed, provide for, or fight for itself, it cannot survive.” They warned of serious consequences for the country’s agricultural industry if Congress does not act promptly.

The group argued that reauthorization of the Farm Bill and interim aid are necessary to support farmers and ranchers and ensure the stability of the U.S. food supply. They called on Congress to address the issue immediately, citing potential impacts on communities across the country.

The letter’s signatories include governors from states such as Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Montana and Utah.
