The Oregon State Fire Marshal provides grants to help property owners in wildfire-prone locations make their homes more resilient.

SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon State Fire Marshal is offering grants to help property owners in wildfire-prone locations make their homes more resilient.

According to a press release from OSFM, eligible homeowners will receive a $250 payment to create defensible spaces around their homes. In order to receive the grant, they must have the agency carry out an assessment of the free defense areas on their property.

“After a record-breaking wildfire season, we know now is the time to prepare our homes for the next season,” Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple said in the release. “We strongly encourage home and property owners to arrange an assessment. This first step can make a significant difference in protecting your home and neighborhood from the threat of wildfires.”

According to the press release, defensible space makes homes more resilient to wildfires by preventing embers from landing and catching fire.
