Gujarat UCC committee to concentrate on equal rights for women, take care of children

Gandhinagar: Even when the committee formed to evaluate the need for a uniform civil code (UCC) and to remove a draft law for it in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, Govt Gujarat extended the deadline for the committee to submit his report by another 45 days. The committee was founded on February 4 and asked to submit its report within 45 days.
An online portal – http://uccgujarat.in – was launched on Tuesday for citizens, political parties, NGOs, social groups and communities in order to emit suggestions and opinions on the UCC.
Under the direction of the judge of the Supreme Court of Ranjana Desai in retirement, he discussed and collected suggestions and opinions from representatives of various state orders, religious institutions and political parties on Tuesday.
“Our work begins today. The committee was commissioned to evaluate the need for the UCC in Gujarat. We will develop a draft after exercising, and we will hold public advice for this,” Desai told reporters in Gandhinagar. She added that Public advice was an essential part of the exercise, and two sub-committees were formed-one for public consultation and another to prepare the draft.
Desai said: “We will concentrate more Same rights for women and care for children. There should be the same rights for marriage and divorce. Marriages and divorces have to be registered, but rituals of marriage must not be disturbed. “
Registration of all marriages and divorces is the only prerequisite, and divorces must be carried out in accordance with the law, Desai said and added that a draft for the law of inheritance and the relationships in the apartment would be created shortly.
The chairman of the committee said that the committee would also consider submitted proposals in the portal. “We will study them for new ideas and objections. We will then prepare a draft and try to complete it at the earliest,” said Desai.
She quoted that the UCC was implemented in Uttarakhand, and said that the code was part of the guidelines of the constitution, and even the Supreme Court passed several judgments.
The MLA Imran Khedawala Congress said that he was not invited to be an MLA, making his suggestions as a proposed UCC, and added that he would meet the Commission and to make a representation in questions from the Muslim community.
Apart from Desai, the other members of the UCC committee of the retired IAS officer Cl Meena, the lawyer RC Codar, the former Vice Chancellor of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Dakshesh Thakar and social worker Gita Shroff.
