A new year is upon us and 2025 is set to be another thriller in the world of football, but it will be difficult to eclipse 2024. There has been so much drama and excitement over the past calendar year with two major international tournaments sandwiched between the club’s campaign.

Lamine Yamal emerged as an undisputed superstar as the Barcelona star inspired Spain to Euro 2024 glory, and Lionel Messi added another honor to his glittering trophy cabinet as Argentina won the Copa America. It’s been a breakthrough year for a host of household names, but which player scored the most goals in 2024? We analyzed the data of players from the top ten leagues of all club competitions and international games to provide the results!

Which players scored the most goals in 2024?

Viktor Gyökeres has attracted the interest of Europe’s biggest football clubs with his phenomenal goal performance for Sporting CP. No player scored more goals in 2024 than the 26-year-old. Gyökeres scored an incredible 62 goals in 63 appearances for club and country – 52 for Sporting and 10 for Sweden. As the graphic below shows, Erling Haaland is in second place with 49 goals in 59 games as the Norway international helped Manchester City to their fourth consecutive English Premier League title.

Harry Kane is third with 46 goals in 57 games for Bayern Munich and England, while Robert Lewandowski still has an impressive strike rate even in his mid-thirties. Jonathan David completes the top five and the Lille striker is in high demand as his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit expires in the summer. Real Madrid duo Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr are in the top ten, as is Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian in incredible form for Liverpool.
