The Karnataka police arrested the third suspect Saranabasava in the rape of Chennai. Three defendants allegedly attacked two women, including an Israeli citizen near the Hampi Heritage location on March 6th.

New -Delhi: Karnataka police On Monday the third accused arrested in the Hampi raping caseconfirmed officials. The accused, who was identified as a 27-year-old Saranabasava, a carpenter, had been on the run since the incident. He was arrested by the rural police of Gangavathi from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and brought back to Karnataka.
The police (SP) RAM Arasiddi’s superintendent explained that the defendant could be taken into account in police custody if necessary. “As I already mentioned, we took this incident very seriously and founded several teams for the investigation. We visited the crime scene and arrested two suspects with the help of technical inputs. The third accused, Saranabasava, who was broken, has now been arrested in Chenai.
After the incident, the police have strengthened the security measures and reinforced the patrol in the region. “We have increased and inspect the night patrols regularly. We also use NDPS kits for checks and have booked ten cases in the past three months. These surprise inspections are continued, and all violations are only dealt with,” added SP.
The crime occurred in the night of March 6th near the Hampi Heritage location in the Vijayanagara district of Karnataka. According to the police, two women, including an Israeli citizen, were allegedly raped by three men, while a male tourist who accompanied them was later found dead.
According to the investigation, a group of five years, a 29-year-old Bomerestay operator, three male tourists and an Israeli tourist-concerns Stargazing in the Tungabhadra Canal near Sanapur. While they played guitar and enjoyed the night, three men arrived on a motorcycle around 10:30 p.m. and asked where they could find petrol.
The Bomerestay operator informed them that there was no petrol station nearby and proposed to check in Sanapur. One of the men suddenly asked RS 100. “I told them I had no money, but when they passed on, one of the male tourists gave them RS 20,” said the complainant.
However, the suspects became aggressive when they were refused more money.
They began to argue and threaten the group with stones. The situation escalated when two of the accused attacks and rapes of the Bomiestay operator and the Israeli tourist, while the third suspect pushed the male tourists into the water channel.

After the complaint, a case was registered at the Gangavathi Rural Police Station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in 2023, including charges for murder, robbery and rape.
SP Arasiddi confirmed that two of the accused, Sai Mallu and Chethan Sai, were previously arrested by Gangavathi. “On March 6, five people – two women and three men – were attacked by three attackers. The attackers attacked the three men and sexually attacked the two women. We had arrested two suspects earlier, and now the case was progressing with the arrest of the third party,” he said.
The police continue to investigate the case and take further steps to ensure justice for the victims.
