Harley-Davidson is preparing new long-distance touring bikes, says the rumor mill

Last year, Harley-Davidson revamped its popular Road Glide and Street Glide touring bikes with a number of upgrades. While everyone’s jaws were on the floor, true Harley fanatics were curious to see if we would get full-size versions of these bikes. These would basically replace the outdated Road Glide Limited and Ultra Limited models. We are happy to announce that this could happen soon. Let’s dive in.

The rumors about the new touring bikes go back to Harley-Davidson’s patent applications in Europe. This is about the new Tour Pak luggage for its future touring bikes. First and foremost, the patents include a new top case that differs significantly from the current structure of the 2024 Limited models. It’s worth noting that the current top case design is a decade old, so an update is more necessary than you think.

As for the differences, the new Tour-Pak has a different lid that is significantly thicker than the current design. There is a new “hump” that results in a steeper rack angle. A closer look also reveals revised passenger accommodation. The headrest is different and you get two visibly new speakers near the armrests.

Meanwhile, the luggage opens in the same way as before. There are two hinges on the left side and a key lock on the right side. Interestingly, the patent also suggests an alternative opening to the rear. It could be larger to make it easier to take out (or put in) your valuables.

Patent applications for luggage are hardly a confirmation of new touring bikes. But they hint at what Harley might do next. The first thing that comes to mind is of course the arrival of the new Road Glide Limited and Ultra Limited models.

Following in the footsteps of the standard Road Glide and Street Glide models, these motorcycles share the same design and underpinnings, but with additional touring features. Therefore, the new Limited models could launch with this new top case and a refreshed fascia to match the recently updated Glides.

Another possibility is that Harley could simply stop production of these two Limited models and sell the new Tour-Pak as an official accessory. In this way, the Grand American Touring lineup would become tighter than before. This would mean fewer marketing, research and manufacturing costs for the American giant.

Anyway, we will have an official answer soon. Harley-Davidson typically unveils its new range for this year in January, so we’re just a month away from finding out what to expect. We are looking for new HD touring motorcycles. What’s wrong with you?
