Has Alabama football lost all hope of making the College Football Playoff? Latest Tide CFP predictions

Alabama football’s College Football Playoff hopes may have gone up in smoke in Norman, Oklahoma.

After a 24-3 loss to Oklahoma on Saturday, the No. 13 Crimson Tide is the top-ranked three-loss team in the LBM USA Coaches’ Poll, but appears to be on the sidelines after missing an opportunity for an SEC to play championship.

What are Alabama’s chances of reaching the CFP postseason before facing Auburn on Saturday? The Crimson Tide’s chances seem slim.

Predicting Alabama football’s CFP bracket

Note: Seedings are based on this week’s USA LBM Coaches Poll and College Football Playoff format rules

Based on the latest coaches’ poll, Alabama would be second among the 12 CFP teams behind Clemson, which suffered two losses, and ahead of South Carolina, Ole Miss, which suffered three losses, and Iowa State, which suffered two losses.

The Crimson Tide is the top-ranked team in both the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll with three losses and is ranked No. 13. Alabama is 78 votes points ahead of all other teams in the AP Poll with three losses.

Here is the latest scheduled CFP bracket:

  • No. 5 Ohio State vs. No. 12 Arizona State will face No. 4 Boise State

  • No. 6 Penn State vs. No. 11 Indiana will face No. 3 Miami

  • No. 7 Notre Dame vs. No. 10 SMU faces No. 2 Texas

  • No. 8 Georgia vs. No. 9 Tennessee will face No. 1 Oregon

Does Alabama have a chance at the College Football Playoff?

According to ESPN’s Playoff Predictor, Alabama has a 41 percent chance of making the CFP with a win against Auburn.

Heading into the Auburn game, the Crimson Tide has a 37% chance of making the CFP, according to Playoff Predictor, and would still be the first team eliminated behind SMU.

According to BetMGM, the Crimson Tide are 11.5-point favorites against the Tigers. Alabama hasn’t lost a home game to Auburn since 2010.

And according to BetMGM, Alabama has a +4000 chance of winning a national championship, tied with SMU for the ninth-best odds.

Alabama will face Auburn on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC to conclude the 2024 regular season.
