Hawkeyes put 3 in NCAA Finals and Crown 2 other all -Americans – Iowa Hawkeyes Athletics

Philadelphia – The wrestling team of the University of Iowa men put three wrestlers in the NCAA final drake Ayala (133), Michael Caliendo (165) and Stephen Buchanan II (197) and the Hawkeyes showed two more All-Americans on Friday evening at the NCAA champion at the Well-Center. Iowa is in fourth place in the team race with 73.5 points.

Ayala is back in the NCAA final for a second year in a row. A season ago he defeated Wisconsin Eric Barnett in the 125-pound clip.

Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, will meet the top seed Lucas Byrd from Illinois on the championship stage, the third meeting between the two this season. Ayala won the first meeting in the dual with 4: 2 and Byrd the recent meeting that Ayala found in the Big Ten final in the Big Ten final two weeks ago.

“I think I just grew up a lot,” said Ayala. “I said that I was also in a different interview, but I have the feeling that I mature, I grow to a guide I grow – just for a man.”

With 165 pounds, Michael Caliendo No. 3 made the final for the first time in his career with a decision of 14-10 via No. 2 Seed Peyton Hall.

“I think it was about doing what I can do best,” said Caliendo. “Obviously I have Terry Morningstar in my corner. As I said, I’ve dreamed of it since my little child and it means a lot, but the job is not yet done.”

Caliendo meets the top seed with Mitchell Mesenbrink. The two have met five times in the last two seasons, with Mesenbrink ahead in each of these meetings.

To close the semi -final games for the Hawkeyes with 197 pounds. No. 2 Saatgut Stephen Buchanan II.

“Prepare yourself in the same way for every single game,” said Buchanan. “As I said, we have history. I am 1-2 against him. He beat me in the Big 12 final and later beat me again in a dual. So only this match shows me and shows me how much I have grown as a wrestler.”

Buchanan meets Josh Barr with No. 4. Buchanan defeated Barr in the dual at the beginning of this season.

Both Patrick Kennedy (174) and Ben Kueter won in the blood round to claim all-America honors. No. 11-Samen Patrick Kennedy defeated the No. 15-Samen Luca Augustine from Pittsburgh, 7-6. No. 5 seeds Ben Kueter defeated No. 10 Samen Dayton Pitzer from Pittsburgh, 5-1.

Kennedy then defeated the Danny-Wask of the No. 7 Seed Navy 7: 3 and will wrestle in the semi-finals of the semi-finals of No. 13 Cade Devos tomorrow morning. Kueter let off a 10: 2 game against seed No. 9 Cohlton Schultz from the state of Arizona and becomes Joshua Heinselman from Michigan for seventh place No. 6-seed.
