It looks like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans aren’t the only ones returning to the Marvel Universe – CAPTAIN AMERICA star Hayley Atwell is officially back in the MCU!

It’s still unknown exactly what role Atwell will play, but Deadline reported that sources have told them that she is “expected to reprise her role as Agent Carter” in the upcoming AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY.

Atwell played Agent Peggy Carter in the first two CAPTAIN AMERICA films as well as the 2015 series AGENT CARTER. She has also appeared in high-profile projects such as MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE and the upcoming PADDINGTON IN PERU.

Atwell’s CAPTAIN AMERICA co-star Evans will also appear in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, but it is unknown whether or not he will play the patriotic superhero.

According to many, this on-screen reunion for Atwell and Evans has been a long time coming.

“The couple were initially in talks to star again in their own film, which presumably gained momentum in the years following Steve’s return to the past and marriage to Peggy at the end of AVENGERS: ENDGAME,” wrote Total Film. “However, they couldn’t agree on a story for the film, so the pair’s reunion and return as Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter was apparently postponed until AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY.”

With this latest casting announcement and the return of Evans and Downey Jr. to the MCU, many are wondering if this is Marvel’s attempt to win back lost fans.

“Although the studio scored a major victory with the only film it released this year – the billion-dollar DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE – it has endured a 2023 in which audiences have failed to support its efforts to create a new family of heroes , was largely indifferent to “Meet a second generation of super-powerful stars,” AV Club reported. “That’s why it seems to lean so heavily on that now old Generation of stars.”
