Former Barcelona star İlkay Gündoğan this weekend gave an insight into a somewhat bizarre situation that unfolded during one of the club’s games last season.

The moment in question occurred in the Champions League, during a group stage clash with Portuguese heavyweights Porto.

In the end, Barcelona emerged victorious from the encounter, with a single goal to nil.

But at some point in the first half, the Blaugrana found themselves a man down, even though no man had yet been sent off.

This came after Lamine Yamal briefly left the pitch, ultimately leaving then-coach Xavi and his coaching staff with no choice but to replace the young player.

And this weekend, former teammate İlkay Gündoğan provided insight into exactly what happened.

Speaking during an interview with Sports Diaryexplained the German:

“Last season against Porto there was a point in the game where we felt cornered. It felt like we had one less man on the pitch. Later I realized we had one less. Lamine went to the bathroom during the game and the coaching staff did not replace him.”
