Kate Middleton has a royally difficult decision to make.

The Princess of Wales and her husband Prince William’s eldest child, Prince William, is preparing for a new journey once his time at his current private school, Lambrook, comes to an end.

William wants his 11-year-old son to follow in his footsteps and attend the prestigious all-boys boarding school Eton. However, according to royal sources, the princess would prefer her eldest son to attend a mixed-gender school such as Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

Kate attended this school herself from 1996 to 2000.

George is reportedly fine with the idea of ​​going to Eton, but Kate is said to be “heartbroken” at the thought. The mother of three finds the elite school too “bourgeois” for him.

“Kate prefers George to attend a co-educational school so he can be with his siblings, which is something Kate experienced in Marlborough with her sister Pippa and brother James,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told The Mirror. “It was a very happy school life for them, but William has very fond memories of Eton, which has a long history of aristocrats and members of the royal family.”

But Nicholl also admitted that the prince and princess could make a completely different decision that no one expected.

“There is always the possibility that traditions will be changed,” she argued. “William and Harry did not follow in their father’s footsteps by going to Gordonstoun (in Scotland) and it may be that George breaks the Eton rule and ends up somewhere else. “

“Whatever happens, it will be a decision by William and Kate with George’s best interests in mind,” the expert added.

According to tradition, royal children were either educated at home or sent to boarding school. King Charles III and his two sons William and Prince Harry, 40, all attended boarding school.

Charles, 76, attended Cheam School in Berkshire from the age of eight, making him the first heir to the throne to attend a “civilian” school. Meanwhile, the 42-year-old Prince of Wales and his 40-year-old brother Prince Harry, both of the same age, attended Ludgrove School, also in Berkshire, before going to Eton.

George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, attended, according to OK! initially attending Thomas’ school in Battersea, London, before moving to Lambrook in 2022 after moving to Adelaide Cottage.

All three are currently enrolled there.

Nicholl also told The Mirror that the trio enjoyed their time at school and it had given them a sense of stability during difficult times, such as when Kate underwent cancer treatment last year.

“When Kate was in hospital, George was on the football pitch playing with his friends,” Nicholl revealed.

She added: “That sense of normality, the family’s survival in one of the most difficult times they have ever been through, was important.” The school provides them with great infrastructure and a great support network and allows the children to have a normal childhood – one reserved, happy, albeit privileged childhood.”

Meanwhile, in addition to making decisions about her children’s education, Kate is preparing to return to full public service following her cancer diagnosis.

The Princess has spent much of this year behind closed doors after undergoing abdominal surgery in January, which was quickly followed by her cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment.

But her husband has now provided a promising update on her health and revealed that Kate will take a more active role in the royal fold in 2025.

Kate announced in September that she was now “cancer-free.”
