Heavy winds, floods affect the neighborhoods and streets

Harrisonburg, Va. (WHSV) – Warmth winds and floods continue to work on the region and leave thousands of people without power. The Virginia Ministry of Transport received several reports on remote trees along the streets.

From fallen branches to shaky street signs, the weekend storm continues to work on streets and districts in the area. If it is not absolutely necessary, it may be best to move driving during the weather event.

Ken Slack with VDOT asks people not to take essential trips if possible.

“If you have to travel, keep your speed down and be careful when you handle a curve or a hill, because you just don’t know what you will find on the street.” Said Slack. “You could find a stopped vehicle because a tree down, wind or power lines. Get additional time to react to what mother nature throws on us. “

After the heavy rains on Saturday, many streets are flooded, especially in which relaxed areas. He said he should anticipate road closures that could extend until the next few days.

If you come across a closed street, do not touch any of the signs, taps or barricades. They are security measures that you should protect.

“If we have road closures, especially these flooded roads, we will set up barricades. Never drive around a barricade; Never move a barricade, ”said Slack. “It is there for your security, so keep them in place and find a different way to get to your goal.”
