Here are 7 things all good golfers use and where to buy them this Black Friday weekend…

No matter what level you play at, every golfer strives to get better, but there are a few things that low handicap golfers do and certain pieces of equipment that help them play golf at a high level .

I played college golf for four years before trying my hand at professional golf on the mini-tours in the UK for four years. During this time I played and spent time with a number of elite amateurs and even players who went on to win the DP World Tour.

While there is no denying that some golfers have immense natural talent and skill, I have witnessed them utilize some of the best golf equipment in the game to get the most out of their game.

As you can imagine, many of these products usually come with a pretty high price tag, but I’ve been searching online for some of the gear I’ve spotted at events that are also on sale this Black Friday weekend – you can thanks me later!

Hitting the ball well is becoming increasingly important and to reach the highest level of amateur or professional golf, the combination of accuracy and distance has become extremely important. With one of the best drivers on the market, you can be confident you’ll get the most out of your golf swing and hit more fairways. The latest drivers feature designs that improve forgiveness and maximize distance through the use of interchangeable weights and even carbon faces, like TaylorMade drivers.

Two of the best drivers coming to market in 2024 are the Cobra Darkspeed and the TaylorMade Qi10 Driver. The latter has been used this year by the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler to achieve a total of 11 wins in the 2024 season. On the PGA Tour in 2024, players like Rickie Fowler, Gary Woodland and Justin Suh relied on the Cobra Darkspeed.

Mizuno T24 Wedge Review

Yes, hitting the ball well is very important, as is the ability to move around the greens and take advantage of birdie opportunities when the opportunity arises. The best players I’ve played with and against have the ability to score good goals, even if they don’t necessarily hit the ball well.

To pitch and chip the ball well, you need to know how the ball will react when it hits the green, and the easiest way to do that is to have fresh grooves on your wedges. If you’ve been thinking about upgrading, now’s your chance. Often considered the gold standard when it comes to wedges, Titleist Vokey wedges are now available for 17% off along with one of my favorite wedges I’ve tested this year, the Mizuno T24. Both offerings were among the best wedges I’ve tested over the last few seasons and are now discounted at the PGA TOUR Superstore.

Choosing the right putter for your game isn’t as simple as just looks, but many of the best putters I’ve played with use a mallet putter due to its high MOI and stability. The TaylorMade Spider range has become extremely popular with low handicap golfers and is now available at 20% off on the TaylorMade website.

balls

Using one of the best premium golf balls is an absolute given when it comes to competing at the top of the amateur and professional games. To achieve a good result, it is important to understand how a ball will fly and react under different conditions. To understand which club to hit and where the ball will land when it comes to a stop, you need to predict whether your iron shot on the green is likely to rotate or whether your shot will be affected by the wind.

Complete control of the golf ball is what these top golfers want and are unlikely to play a ball unless they have really tried and tested it. The Titleist Pro V1 golf ball and TaylorMade TP5x golf balls are some of the most played golf balls in professional sports, and while they’re rarely on sale year-round, I found them at up to 9% off this Black Friday weekend.

Better course management

One of the most common reasons higher handicap golfers throw away shots on the golf course is poor course management. While you may have “eyeballed” a flag and missed the ball, I promise you that relying on feel and estimating distance is not the way to go if you want to improve .

While the best players in the world are often enough conditioned to demand half yards on their approach shots, I’m in no way saying that the average golfer should do this, but rather that they understand how far you have to go to the flag, or how far the carry a hazard undeniably saves the average golfer several strokes every round of golf.

Using a rangefinder gives you instant distance to markers and other obstacles on the golf course. This Black Friday, one of the best models on the market – the Bushnell Tour V6 Shift – is available for almost $100 off at Amazon!

Practice with intention

Determined practice is one of the most important lessons I’ve learned from being around some brilliant golfers, whether at a tournament during practice days or on a week off at home. Hitting balls aimlessly on the range is a trap that many club golfers fall into, but the advent of top tracer driving ranges makes it much easier to combat.

One of the best ways to make my practice more fun and useful was to purchase one of the best launch monitors. Yes, these devices are an investment and are by no means cheap, but if you are serious about improving your game and improving your results on the court, using one of these devices when practicing will quickly improve your game.

Understanding how far you hit each club in practice will make hitting shots closer to the court much more common, especially if you also use one of the rangefinders mentioned above. While some of these monitors cost more than $20,000, there are far cheaper options available at a very good discount this Black Friday. If you’re like me and aren’t a big fan of playing golf in the winter, you can improve your game by purchasing one of the best putting mats. When I talk to very good golfers, they always do everything they can to keep their game sharp, and if that means hitting a few putts while watching a movie in their lounge, then they will they do that.

I recently tested a number of the best putting mats and there are some really good options on offer. One of my favorite and perhaps most realistic putting mats is the PrimePutt putting mat. The synthetic nylon grass means the ball rolls like it would on a real green and you even get cups that mimic a full-depth cup.

Increase the speed of your club head

There has certainly been a demand for clubhead speed at the highest level of the game recently, and with the rate at which college players are making their way onto the PGA Tour, the fastest are only getting faster.

Now, these guys are full-time professional athletes and so the hours they spend in the gym can’t be ignored, but there are ways club golfers can get faster without having to do heavy squats. Speed Sticks from SuperSpeed Golf are a great over and under speed training option to improve your driver’s swing speed. If you’ve been wanting to add some length to your tee shots and outdo your friends this weekend when the 2025 season begins, be sure to check out the deal on this training aid below.
