Summary: “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” was published in 1966. Based on the book of the same name by Dr. Seuss, the animated TV special follows a mean and lonely Grinch (voiced by Boris Karloff) who hatches a plan to ruin Christmas for the residents of Whoville. It features the timeless song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” by Thurl Ravenscroft.

Summary: The live-action film How the Grinch Stole Christmas, featuring the comedic talents of Jim Carrey as the Grinch himself, was released in 2000.

Similar to the animated TV special, the film plans to have the Grinch ruin Christmas for the people of Whoville. Along the way, he meets a little girl named Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen), who makes him question his behavior.

How to “Dr. Seuss’ “The Grinch” (2018)

Summary: Benedict Cumberbatch plays the Grinch in this animated version of the classic Christmas story, which premiered in 2018. He is joined by an all-star cast including Rashida Jones as Donna Who, Pharrell Williams as the narrator, Kenan Thompson as Mr. Bricklebaum and the late Angela Lansbury as Mayor McGerkle.

The film has a more modern feel than the 1966 version, evidenced by a reimagined “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” sung by Tyler, the Creator. But certain things don’t change – like the Grinch’s devious behavior when he tries to ruin the Whos’ Christmas.
