Can you stream the theatrical versions of the Star Wars trilogy?

For die-hard fans, the versions of the original trilogy available to stream are the edited “Special Editions” versions.

The theatrical versions of the trilogy (sometimes referred to as Star Wars unedited), released between 1977 and 1983, do not feature CGI. In 1997, the films were re-released with more advanced audio and visual elements, including CGI.

For example, in the theatrical release of Star Wars (1977), later renamed A New Hope, Jabba the Hut is a man and not a giant space slug.

What is the chronological order of the Star Wars films?

Fans typically watch the Star Wars movies in two ways: in chronological release date order or in chronological episode order.

While it’s pretty easy to watch them in episode order (Episode I, Episode II, Episode III, etc.), this is the order in which the “Star Wars” films were released in theaters:

  • “Episode IV – A New Hope” (1977)

  • “Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” (1980)

  • “Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” (1983)

  • “Episode I – The Phantom Menace” (1999)

  • “Episode II – Attack of the Clones” (2002)

  • “Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” (2005)

  • “Episode VII – The Force Awakens” (2015)

  • “Episode VIII – The Last Jedi” (2017)

  • “Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker” (2019)
