Here’s how you can support locally on Giving Tuesday

JACKSON, Tenn. – It’s a movement that is unleashing the power of generosity around the world. Celebrated the day after Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday began more than a decade ago as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good.

Over time, this has developed into a worldwide movement. But this is how your contribution can benefit the region.

American Red Cross

The Jackson Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is one way to spread generosity this year.

The Coca-Cola Company will match all donations made to the American Red Cross, dollar for dollar, up to $250,000. They say your donations stay local and you can make a difference by giving something that means something.

“But just knowing that the donation is going to the communities where many of your relatives live, where your neighbors are from; I know this is very encouraging and will not get lost in all the donations across the country,” said David Hicks, Midwest executive director of the American Red Cross.

When you go online, you have the option to designate your donation for “your local chapter.” The Jackson Chapter also accepts checks dropped off at its Stonecreek Circle location or mailed. Checks must be dated December 3rd to be eligible for a The Coca-Cola Company game.

Isaiah 117 House & Jackson Arts Council

Donors can also donate to the Isaiah 117 House. This benefits Gibson, Dyer and Crockett counties. The goal is to raise $200,000 across the organization on Giving Tuesday to help transform foster care and the way it begins for children.

You can also donate to the Jackson Art Box program through the Jackson Arts Council. The goal is to raise $5,300. All you need to do is text ARTBOX to 50155.

RMHC & Salvation Army

Other local organizations include Ronald McDonald House Charities of Memphis-Jackson. This donation will benefit families of children receiving medical care at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The Jackson Salvation Army is also asking the community to donate. Donations made on Giving Tuesday will help provide shelter, food, emergency rent and utilities, and Christmas support to local families. You can donate online, support Red Kettles, join the Angel Tree program, or sign up as a volunteer.

Leaders Education Foundation

Another nonprofit organization is the Leaders Education Foundation.

“People can donate to the Leaders Education Foundation through Leadersgives.org. This is our website. You can see there all the different programs that we support, all the different grants that we give out, all the different scholarships that we participate in and it’s such a great organization and we just love it when people give back to the community. It’s fun to participate in Giving Tuesday with so many other nonprofits,” said Leigh Ann Bentley, president of the Leaders Education Foundation.
