Hollywood Hills brush fire threatens buildings – NBC Los Angeles

Firefighters halted the progress of a brush fire threatening buildings in the Hollywood Hills Tuesday morning, on a red-flag day in Southern California because of strong Santa Ana winds.

The fire was reported around 10 a.m. in the 8400 block of West Sunset Boulevard. The forward march was stopped before 11 a.m

Smoke could be seen in the Hollywood area. The fire was estimated at about 3 hectares.

Details of how the fire started were initially unknown.

Red flag warnings went into effect across much of the region on Tuesday morning, indicating a high fire danger. The warnings are expected to remain in place until Thursday.

Strong offshore winds developed Tuesday morning as red flag warnings began for the Malibu coast, the Santa Monica Mountains resort area and the San Gabriel, San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys. The warning is expected to expire on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Later Tuesday, the red flag warning indicating high fire danger will extend to Los Angeles County beaches, the Palos Verdes Hills and the inland coast of Los Angeles County into downtown Los Angeles.

Any bushfires that develop could spread quickly due to the strong winds and dry conditions.
