How Dennis Schröder helped Timberwolves’ Donte DiVincenzo out of crisis – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Dennis Schröder helped change former Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo’s attitude after he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves on the eve of the NBA season.

DiVincenzo revealed in an exclusive interview with The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski that he exchanged text messages with Schröder earlier this season after he was traded to Golden State.

“He was just direct with his words,” DiVincenzo told Krawczynski. “He said it was hard. You just have to go out and do it. No matter where you are, just be yourself and just do it. You look in the mirror and think: Okay, the situation is the situation. Let the last year pass. This year is this year.”

DiVincenzo was a key part of the New York Knicks last season, helping the team reach the Eastern Conference playoffs. Although he was expected to contribute to the Knicks again this season, he was part of the massive Karl Anthony Towns trade two days before the start of training camp. His start to the season was difficult as he struggled to adapt to the new team, but thanks to Schröder’s encouragement he is starting to look like himself again.

The 27-year-old spent one season with the Warriors during the 2022-2023 NBA season before agreeing to a four-year, $50 million contract with the Knicks.

Schröder is still settling in with Golden State since moving to the Brooklyn Nets. While he has shown flashes of brilliance at times, he and the Warriors are mired in a sustained trough of mediocrity.

At 16-15, Golden State is still in the running for a spot in the Western Conference playoffs, but the margin of error is razor thin for the remainder of the season. Hopefully Schröder can follow DiVincenzo and make his own comeback with his new team.
