If you’ve been on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed that some of your favorite accounts have various product reviews encouraging you to buy the next best facial serum or clothing line. Some influencers do this more subtly than others – you might see a full commercial or notice the poster using hashtags or tagging products in the photo.

Whether the way they create content is over-the-top or a little more nuanced, it’s almost guaranteed that they’ll get paid through brands or affiliate links. The more followers you have, the more checks you get and at this level, every click is worth millions.

Micro-influencers – those with 2,000 to 50,000 followers – can earn money on the side on the platform. A survey of 5,000 influencers found that almost half charge $200 to $400 for a sponsored post. USA Today reported that some micro-influencers charge thousands. As your follower count grows, so does the potential to earn more.
