How much is Vincent Askew worth? Find out more about the former NBA star’s fall from grace

When Vincent Askew burst onto the NBA stage in 1987 as a second-round pick of the Philadelphia 76ers, the future seemed bright. But as fate would have it, his career fell into constant disarray. Over nine years, Askew bounced back and forth between teams but never quite found his footing. When he hung up his sneakers with the Portland Trail Blazers, it was clear that stability wasn’t part of his story. Off the field, the struggle seemed to follow him, and now, years later, it took a dramatic turn. Another former NBA star, Vernon Maxwell, recently dropped a bombshell by naming Askew “broke” and accused him of owing $10,000.

The two-time NBA champion didn’t hold back when he took to social media to issue a warning to other NBA players about Askew. In a video, Maxwell revealed that he and Askew share the same brotherly bond, but that didn’t stop the latter from doing dirty on him. Maxwell accused the former Golden State Warriors guard of borrowing $10,000 and not paying it back.

I want all my NBA brothers to know one thing about this one, n***a, this is our brotherhood.” Maxwell began. “He’s an idiot. He doesn’t suck. If this n***a calls you and asks you for any kind of money, then this n***a is lying. … The N*A’s name is Vincent Askew. Don’t give this damn cent. …This n***a owes me $10,000,” he said.

According to the details, Vincent Askew has bagged a total of $12,086,894 during his NBA journey HoopsHype. It all started with a rocky start – he was released just 14 games after the draft. But four years later, he made a comeback with the Golden State Warriors, where he earned $311,864. Not bad pickings for a second chance, right?

Askew then moved to the Sacramento Kings for a short time before finding more stability with the Seattle SuperSonics (now the Oklahoma City Thunder). In four seasons in Seattle, he averaged six points, four rebounds and two assists per game. However, his paychecks increased by $403,363 in his second year, $3,099,293 in his third, and $3,728,896 in his final season there.

But after Seattle, things got complicated. Askew was traded to the New Jersey Nets, where he played just one game before being traded to the Indiana Pacers. Larry Brown, then Pacers coach, praised him as one of the league’s best defenders, saying: “He’s not worried about minutes, he’s not worried about shots, he’s just worried about winning.” But things didn’t get any better for the small forward. At that time he moved to Denver and Portland, although he only played five games in the latter and none before.

Askew’s points had also dropped to an average of 2.2. Therefore, the Trail Blazers waived him in the 1997-1998 season. After making $4 million with the Pacers, his earnings reduced to $533,587 by his final stint.

In the years that followed, he began coaching, experienced some issues with coaching hiring allegations, but has largely stayed out of the spotlight since then. As mentioned, his net worth remains secret, but estimates put it at around $2 million.
