How much snow fell at Highmark Stadium overnight?

Mother Nature decided to kick off the holiday season in style in Western New York by dumping several feet of snow across the region to kick off the month of December.

Orchard Park, a Buffalo suburb that receives more than 100 inches of snow each year due to its inconvenient location on Lake Erie, recorded a fair amount of snow during this weekend’s event.

Highmark Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills, is located in the suburbs and was therefore significantly impacted by the ongoing lake-effect snow event. The band hovered over the stadium for much of Saturday afternoon and evening and into the early hours of Sunday morning, with a shovel on site noting that the weather finally cleared a bit around 4:00 a.m

Lake effect snow bands are difficult in that they have sharp demarcations and varying densities within the bands themselves; Areas that are only a few miles apart on a map often have drastically different amounts of snow. This means that despite being in a city that received a measured 18 inches of snow, Highmark Stadium could have received significantly more or less snow; A Twitter user posted a video outside Highmark Stadium early Sunday morning, noting that more than 20 inches of snow had fallen in the city throughout Saturday evening.

Stadium workers and fans are currently busy clearing the stadium in hopes of clearing the venue by the time Buffalo’s arrives Football on Sunday evenings The game with the 49ers starts at 8:20 p.m
