How much snow is coming to Utah this weekend? -Deseret News

Snow is expected to fall along the Wasatch Front late Friday into early Saturday morning.

“We have a cold front approaching tomorrow morning that should stall over the Wasatch Front,” said KSL-TV meteorologist Matt Johnson. “This front will be accompanied by a band of snow moving between Salt Lake City and Nephi, with the highest amounts likely to fall in the Utah Valley.”

The band of snow will dissipate during Saturday. Sunday is expected to be dry, but rain and snow will move southwest, possibly ending a more than 50-day dry spell in St. George on Monday, he said.

How much snow will fall?

Logan to Bountiful: 0-1″

Salt Lake City to Nephi: Track-3″

Logan Mountains to Bountiful Mountains: 1-3″

Mountains from Salt Lake City to Nephi Mountains: 4-8″

Johnson said dry weather will return next week and the next best chance of a storm is around Feb. 2.

Will it snow in the ski resorts in the west?

A storm will move into the Rocky Mountains from the north this weekend and stall over the Southwest until early next week, according to OpenSnow meteorologist Alan Smith.

“To the west, the main feature next week will be a cutoff low forming over the Great Basin and the Southwest. Snowfall totals in this stretch will be the highest across Colorado, while the SoCal Mountains and Southwest could also see respectable snowfall,” Smith said.

According to OpenSnow, a cutoff low is a nearly stationary low pressure or storm system that can bring consistent weather, usually with precipitation, for several days.

Colorado ski resorts like Steamboat and Howelsen Hill could see about 10 inches of snow over the next five days, OpenSnow says.

The five-day forecast for Utah ski areas predicts 8″ in Brighton and 7″ in Alta, while Snowbird, Solitude, Deer Valley, Park City and Sundance could reach 6″ and Brian Head could reach 4″.

Northern Utah resorts are expected to see little to no snow.
