How much snow will there be?

Delaware Weather Forecast

New Castle County: The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of snow showers between midnight and 1 a.m., followed by a chance of rain and snow showers thereafter. The lows drop to 37 degrees. The weather forecast for Thursday calls for snow showers before 9 a.m., followed by sunny skies and high temperatures around 39 degrees with westerly winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour. Overall, New Castle County could get less than half an inch of snow.

Kent County: The National Weather Service forecasts rain and snow showers between midnight and 5 a.m. and a chance of showers after 5 a.m. with lows around 39 degrees. The weather forecast for Thursday calls for rain and snow showers before 9 a.m. and then snow showers between 9 a.m. and noon, when temperatures drop to 34 degrees by 5 p.m. There is expected to be less than half an inch of snow.

Sussex County: The National Weather Service is forecasting a slight chance of rain and snow showers between midnight and 3 a.m. and then a slight chance of rain showers after 3 a.m. There is also a chance of rain and snow showers before 9am and a chance of snow showers between 9am and 12pm as temperatures fall to 34 degrees by 5am. Little to no snow accumulation is expected.

How do you drive in the snow?

Drivers may need a refresher on their snow driving skills. Here are some tips from AAA.

Don’t drive. When winter weather hits, drive only if you have to.
Reduce speed. Ice and snow affect traction on the road, so drive slower.
Increase following distances. Increase the value to five to six seconds instead of the traditional two seconds. Remember that stopping on snowy roads takes longer.
Do not use cruise control.
Keep half a tank of fuel in your car.
Have an emergency kit ready with cold weather gear, blankets, extra food and water, a flashlight and a glass scraper.
Keep your phone charged in case of emergency.
