How much would you pay for a year of unlimited cruising?

If you could go on unlimited cruises for a year for a flat fee, would you? Virgin Voyages, an adults-only cruise company, seems to think so.

Virgin allows travelers ages 21 and older to hop on and off an unlimited number of cruises for an entire year, with destinations from the Caribbean and the Bahamas to Greece and other Mediterranean destinations.

The cruise line’s annual pass — an expanded version of the sold-out season pass that allows digital nomads to work on one of the cruise line’s three (soon to be four) ships for a month — offers passengers the opportunity to sail on any ship location for any cruise up to 365 days. Passengers who book this offer can decide for themselves when the clock starts ticking; They can choose to start on January 1st, February 1st, March 1st, or April 1st, whichever works best for their schedule. The pass is valid for 365 days after the selected start date.

“I have always been a firm believer in the power of travel and adventure to inspire creativity and provide clarity,” said Richard Branson, the business mogul who launched the cruise line as part of Virgin Group. “What started as a coveted “Work from Sea” concept with our Season Pass has evolved into something even more special. Now sailors can jump aboard one of our ships for an entire year and explore an endless variety of exciting destinations.”

The costs? It’s not cheap. Cruisers hoping for this “bargain” will receive a whopping $120,000 for two people in exchange for a stay in Sea Terrace balcony accommodations, which are nicer than inside cabins and ocean view cabins, but not as fancy as the line’s suites.

That’s more than $10,000 for two people per month, or $5,000 per person per month. (And no, you don’t have to choose the same person as your plus one all year long.) Although Virgin Voyages tends to attract a more upscale clientele than some other cruise lines, that’s a steep price to pay, especially if you won’t be spending every single day on board or if you have to pay the costs of accommodation on land.

However, Virgin is hoping to make the business more attractive to some would-be sailors (Virgin’s term for cruise ships) by accepting the cryptocurrency Bitcoin as payment for the annual pass. This is something that other cruise lines have not yet adopted. Please note that regardless of payment method, full payment is due at the time of booking via bank transfer and is non-refundable.

Should you decide to take advantage of this offer from Virgin Voyages, you can expect to receive $100 cash credit for each trip, along with priority boarding, two free specialty coffees per cabin per day, free and unlimited premium WiFi and complimentary laundry services and access to a concierge and special VIP events on board. When you book, you’ll also immediately receive the line’s highest loyalty status, Deep Blue Extras.

Be sure to read the fine print. The price of the annual pass does not include taxes and fees that are additional for each cruise you take. Pass redemption is subject to availability for each ride booked. You can purchase a cabin upgrade through the line’s level upgrade program. Another restriction is that solo travelers will still pay the full fare for two passengers, less any taxes and fees for the second guest (a third and fourth passenger may be added to the cabin at applicable fares).

Virgin Voyages’ ships offer what feels like summer camp for adults—if summer camps were held at upscale beach resorts. Think gourmet dining, state-of-the-art entertainment, secret parties, pool deck soirées that rage until the wee hours of the morning, free fitness classes and trivia games hosted by drag queens. You also shouldn’t miss the more nostalgic aspects of a Virgin sailing, including retro board games, dodgeball tournaments, boy band dance classes, arts and crafts, and free candy and ice cream, all of which will really give you that feeling of being a kid again be.

Virgin is not the first cruise line to offer its passengers an unlimited cruise option. In 2023, Margaritaville at Sea began offering cruise lines the Unlimited Paradise Pass, allowing them as many non-consecutive two-night cruises from the Port of Palm Beach to the Bahamas as they can fit in a year. The program then expanded to include a Heroes Pass for active military, veterans, first responders and teachers.

Although Margaritaville at Sea’s pass had many restrictions (last minute bookings and inside cabins only, holiday exclusions, etc.), prices started at a more affordable $999 for two people for the Unlimited Paradise Pass and $299 for two people for the Heroes Pass.
