How to find and get a black cat in Minecraft

Black cats inside Minecraft can be somewhat rare compared to the normal walkers that players can find in villages throughout the game’s various biomes. For this particular cat breed, players can only see one spawn in two different locations and at two different times:

• In a witch’s hut – Black cats appear in a witch’s hut found in swamp biomes. They are somewhat rare, but have a chance of spawning in the northwest corner of the swamp biomes.

• At full moon – Players have a chance to find a black cat in the game during the full moon. This only happens at night and the chance of producing an adult black cat is only 50%. This will only be the case for newly created villages, as old ones do not produce a black cat.

After coming into contact with a black cat, players can tame it by feeding it raw fish. Players can get raw cod or raw salmon by killing fish in the sea or rivers, and these are the best for cats. The next hardest part is sneaking up on the cat to tame it. Players may have to chase the cat around a bit before they have a chance to feed it the fish, or if they are smart enough, players can also feed it by sneaking up behind it. Be careful not to make any sudden movements.

Players may need to feed their cats multiple pieces of fish. Once a heart appears above the cat’s head, they know they have successfully tamed it. When tamed, a red collar should also appear around the cat’s neck. Now the cat follows the player and can be led back to the base. To ensure the cat’s safety, players should press “Sit” on the cat after returning it to its base.

Other ways to get black cats – or more of them – are to force spawn them or to breed black cats to get more. Players can use the command by typing: /summon cat ~ ~ ~ {variant:all_black}. This creates a black cat. If players want to breed a black cat, no matter how they got it, the only way they can successfully breed more black cats is to breed two together in a witch’s hut. Cats can be bred by feeding two cats raw cod or salmon.
