How to get results with Engage Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – When you report a problem to the City of Toledo, you want to see results as quickly as possible. Now the I-TEAM is learning that there are things you can do to increase the likelihood of that happening, and it all starts with Engage Toledo.

“If you want results, please provide as much detail as possible,” said Jenny Jaqua, Toledo’s customer service and engagement officer, who leads Engage Toledo.

If citizens have a concern, they can report it to Engage Toledo by phone or online. Jaqua says that they should provide certain information when doing so.

“Give us a package number, an address, a specific location. If it’s at an intersection, is it at the north corner? The South? You know, West? Provide as much detail as possible,” she said.

Parcel numbers can be found by searching for the property in Lucas County Areis.

Once a complaint is reported to Engage Toledo, the agency sends that information to the appropriate city agency requesting an investigation. But sometimes the investigator needs more information.

“Many callers don’t want to give their name or phone number, and that could prevent timely tracing if they don’t have a person or phone number to contact,” Jaqua said.

While providing this information can be helpful, Jaqua says it still takes time to achieve results.

“We want to meet expectations,” Jaqua said. “If you call us today and alert us to a problem, and we are the city, there’s a good chance the problem will still exist tomorrow… but that doesn’t mean someone isn’t working behind the scenes to fix it repair.”

In general, Jaqua says problems like potholes and burst water pipes tend to be fixed more quickly. Other issues, such as abandoned homes, can take much longer because the city often has to go through an extensive legal process before taking action.
