How to use Apple Notes for quick equation results on iOS 18

If you’re like most people, the Apple Notes app on your iPhone is your go-to for jotting down ideas, to-do lists, and even the occasional math equation. It’s fast, convenient and always just a tap away. But Notes can actually solve equations for you.

The new Math Results feature in the iOS 18 Notes app changes the way you approach equations when taking notes. Instead of relying on a separate calculator or switching apps mid-task, Notes can now recognize, calculate, and display results directly in your document.

Math Notes seamlessly integrates math functions, whether you’re solving quick problems as a student, calculating numbers professionally during a meeting, or organizing expenses. It is efficient and a practical alternative to a dedicated calculator for everyday math tasks.

Changing math result options in the Notes app is quick and easy. It allows a smoother way to perform calculations directly in your notes. Instead of manually tapping the “=” sign, enable automatic results display in the Settings app.

1. Open Apple Notes and either create a new note or open an existing one.
2. Enter a mathematical equation, e.g. B. 5+3. The math results setting only appears after you enter an equation.
3. Tap Three-point menu in the upper right corner of the toolbar to access additional options below Math results.

The Suggest Results setting means that after the equation result appears, you must press the spacebar to insert it into the note. The “Insert results” option means that the answer will be inserted automatically.
