The Tar Heels fell eight spots in this week’s Associated Press poll after suffering back-to-back losses to No. 4 Auburn (85-72) and Michigan State (94-91) in the Maui Invitational. That setback for the Spartans came in overtime after the Tar Heels overcame a 43-34 halftime deficit to force OT, in which Michigan State outscored UNC 12-9 for the win and a third secured a place in the tournament.

Alabama bounced back from its first loss to No. 13 Purdue (87-78) on Nov. 15 with wins over No. 25 Illinois (100-87), No. 6 Houston (85-80 OT) and Rutgers (95). -90) before losing to Oregon (83-81) last time out.
