The Chiefs and Raiders can face off in an afternoon contest at Arrowhead on Black Friday.

Kansas City is coming off a narrow 3-point victory over the Panthers after losing to the Bills the week before. Meanwhile, Las Vegas continues to weaken and has suffered seven defeats after a 2-2 win at the start of the year. The Raiders haven’t won on the road since defeating the Ravens in Baltimore in Week 2.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes continues to build great chemistry with his tight end — just not the kind you might think.

Mahomes threw two touchdown passes to Noah Gray for the second straight game as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Carolina Panthers 30-27 on Sunday. A week after the loss at Buffalo, the Chiefs, two-time defending Super Bowl champions (10-1), maintained their position atop the AFC.

Mahomes completed a 35-yard touchdown strike to Gray on the game’s first possession and hit him again for an 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Gray has recorded four touchdown catches in the last two weeks – twice as many as nine-time Pro Bowler Travis Kelce did all season – and has become a weapon in the Chiefs’ passing game, which has top wide receiver Rashee Rice a season lost for a long time. End of knee injury in week 4.

Kelce was still a factor Sunday with a team-high six catches for 62 yards, even if the four-time All-Pro looked dejected after a dropped pass.

Kelce has 62 catches for 507 yards this season, while Gray has 26 catches for 249 yards.

But Gray’s development is a good sign for the Chiefs — and he’s on the same page with Mahomes.

On his second TD, Gray said Mahomes “gave me the answer to the test there” before the game.

“He told me before the snap what coverage it was,” said Gray, who had four balls for 66 yards. “That’s just the blessing you have when you play with a quarterback like that. The offensive line did a great job of blocking that and the receivers did a great job of managing their routes to get me on offense. This touchdown was really just a group effort.”

Gray said this is nothing new.

“Pat’s preparation, his leadership is just something I’m fortunate to be a part of,” Gray said. “I love it. It motivates me every time we go on a long drive. Having a leader like that who prepares every week, knows the defense and knows the game plans.

“I’m just lucky to play alongside a guy like that.”

Mahomes completed 27 of 37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns and knew what he had to do for Gray’s second touchdown.

“It’s not just about me, it’s about the quarterback coaches and the players. We go through certain checks that you can run versus certain coverages,” Mahomes said. “I could tell by the way they lined up that they were adopting their Cover Zero look. I alerted the guys to make sure they saw what I saw and delivered the check to the line of scrimmage.”
