DETROIT – For some Black Friday fun, the Detroit Red Wings prepare to take on one of the NHL’s top teams by hosting the New Jersey Devils in an afternoon game.

The Red Wings are hoping they don’t have too much of a Thanksgiving hangover after an exciting win last Wednesday. Although they didn’t play particularly well against the Calgary Flames, a Lucas Raymond goal in overtime gave Detroit a 2-1 win, giving the team two straight wins.

For the Wings, a team that entered the 2024-25 season expecting to compete for a playoff spot, the courage shown by this team can be a chance to return to the postseason. They currently sit in sixth place in the Atlantic Division, six points out of first place in the division.

The Devils are in a heated battle for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. They, the Carolina Hurricanes and the surprising Washington Capitals, are all within striking distance of first place in the Eastern Conference and December is just around the corner. New Jersey had won three straight games before being shut out by the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night. Before the game after the holidays, the Devils are one point behind the Hurricanes for the first time.

This is the second of three matches this year between the Wings and Devils. Detroit won their first meeting on home ice last month.
