What is the Champions Trophy?

The Champions Trophy is a 50-over cricket tournament organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The original two editions of the tournament in 1998 and 2000 became known as ICC Knockout Trophy. These tournaments took place in Bangladesh and Kenya and were eight team single-elimination tournaments.

In 2002 the format changed to a group phase, followed by the final. The tournament originally took place every two years before a three -year gap from 2006 to 2009.

The tournament was then changed every four years.

There was no tournament in 2021, which means that the Champions Trophy was last played in 2017.

Where does the tournament take place?

For the first time in almost three decades, an international ICC tournament is taking place in Pakistan.

It has been the first time since the 1996 Cricket World Championship that Pakistan has organized an ICC tournament and security concerns that hinder the nation’s ability to hinder.

From 2009 to 2019, little to no international cricket was played in Pakistan.

However, not all games are played at this year’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Due to political conflicts, India will play all of its games in the VAE. When India comes to the semi -finals or the final, these games are also played in the United Arab Emirates.

Who plays in the Champions Trophy?

There are eight teams in this year’s tournament, which are divided into two four groups.

Australia is in Group B with England, South Africa and Afghanistan.
